The Machinists support the municipal employees againts Bill 3

manif_20092014Saturday mid-day, tens of thousands of protesters marched in downtown Montreal against Bill 3 Couillard government.
Over 200 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers were present in support against Bill 3 proposed by the Liberal government.

Union and non-union, youth, seniors, families have claimed a right to a decent pension for all. Together they reported the consequences of the bill, including the loss of seniors and the denial of contracts signed.

The event was set in motion at noon at La Fontaine Park and headed for the office of Prime Minister Couillard on McGill College Avenue. The event was organized by the Trade Union Coalition for free bargaining, which represents nearly all unionized municipal employees in Quebec: white collar, blue collar, police, firefighters, professionals and employees of transportation companies.

Coalition reiterates that the pension plans of municipalities are generally in good financial health. Where difficulties persist, the unions are willing to continue the process already begun to negotiate measures to control costs.
