Who are we
The Machinists Council is an organization recognized by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers (IAMAW). The organization includes all members of IAMAW Local Lodges affiliated in Quebec.
The IAMAW is the largest union in the aerospace and airline industries in North America and has nearly 15,000 members in Quebec.
The purpose of the Council is to promote cooperation and unity of action in the areas of education, youth, political action and public relations within the Districts and local Lodges in Quebec. In addition, it helps coordinate the effort of solidarity mobilizations during campaigns in conjunction with the QFL.
Initially, the Provincial Council of Machinists Quebec was formed to bring together all the different machinists Local Lodges in Quebec. In the early 70s, the Machinists’ union representing thousands of members in the field of railways, mines (North Shore), several industrial and various airline companies.
The executive board included members of various local Lodges affiliates in Quebec. The Executive Board meets once a month and have a mandate to coordinate decisions regarding actions to be taken. An election for members of the Executive Council every three years during the Convention of QMC.
Through its legislative director, the Council coordinates policy actions that should be taken.

Through its Director of Education, the Council coordinates the union training sessions tailored to Local Lodges and ensures to maintain the skills of trainers recognized by the IAMAW.
The Youth Committee
The mandate of the Youth Committee is divided into three parts.
Promoting the benefits of union with youth by organizing meetings in schools.
Treat different problems affecting young people in the workplace. Provide young people with solutions tailored to their condition.
Promote youth involvement in trade unionism. The goal is to establish a good falls, to keep alive the labor movement and preserve what we have.
The Director of Public Relations is responsable for logistics (communication with Local Lodges, buses etc) of different events that the Council would be asked to participate in support of the workers that would be Lock-out, strike or against projects legislation that would affect the working class.
