Today, in Las Vegas, the IAMAW 2019 transportation conference began.
For the occasion more than 800 delegates from across North America (10 from Quebec on a total of 50 Canadian delegates), the Machinists representatives Met in Las Vegas to hear, elected officials and to participate in workshops on transportation issues in North America.
On the first day, Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the IAMAW representatives.

Daughter and granddaughter of Union leaders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar said that she could not claim to be a potential Democratic candidate for the Presidency of the United States without the support of her family and without being able to benefit from an education paid in large part by good unionized jobs. Among the subject raised by the Senator, there was the need for a minimum wage of $15 in the United States and that of combating the powerful pharmaceutical lobby.
During his speech, the Senator from Vermont since 2007 and aspiring Democratic candidate to the Presidency of the United States, Bernie Sanders said that “part of the job is going to be to change the values of the United States.” He added that trade unions are the last line of defence for workers and their families. ”
The Senator from Vermont also deplored the concentration of wealth in the hands of the 1% in the United States. “In all, 54% of the U.S. GDP is concentrated in the hands of six major banks. To change the situation, a political revolution will have to take place in the United States, “he stressed. He also referred to the need to abolish or repeal the “right to work” legislation in the States where they are in force to ensure effective representation of all workers. During his speech, Senator Sanders also talked about improving the accessibility of American health care.
